DreamCarXchange is excited to offer up for bid at NO RESERVE this 1992 Pontiac Trans Am Convertible.  This was sourced by Casey Putsch of Genius Garage for the Car Flip Challenge, where all the profits from the sale of this Trans AM will go to Genius Garage, (http://geniusgarageracing.com/).  With this T/A only showing 69k miles and just 663 Trans AM Convertibles produced for 1992, this is a rare find.  This example is finished in Dark Green Metallic with Beige leather interior and a Beige soft top.  It is powered by the 305 cubic inch engine with Tuned Port Injection with a 4-speed automatic transmission.  According to the CARFAX, it was spent its early life in Florida then resided in the Washington DC area from 1998 until early 2020 where it found its way to New Jersey.  It had an oil change completed earlier in 2020.  Accompanying the car is the original window sticker, maintenance invoices in an organized binder, and three sets of keys.  It is being sold with a clean New Jersey title.

1992 was the final year of the 3rd generation Pontiac Firebird, which ran from 1982-1992.  The Trans Am Convertible was only offered for model years 1991 and 1992, this being one of 663 produced for 1992.  The original window sticker shows an original MSRP of $26,565.

Below is a video revving and at idle:

The engine is the standard 305 cubic inch V-8 with Tuned Port Injection that was rated by Pontiac at 215 hp @ 4200 rpm and 285 lb-ft of torque at 3200 rpm when new.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.

The interior features optional leather articulated bucket seats, AM/FM cassette with equalizer, and option package 1SC that includes power windows, locks, mirrors, cruise control and body side moldings.  Other than the leather cracking on the driver’s seat, the interior is said to be very clean.  Also of note is the volume control knob on the radio is not functioning, however volume can be controlled by adjusting the equalizer.

Overall the car is said to show very well, despite some paint chips and scuffs, but no visible dents or dings.  Of particular note is the large paint chip on the driver side front bumper cover, the paint oxidation on the boot cover and the small tears in the softop at the pinch points.  The previous owner stated that the roof does not leak.  Note that the broken ground effect on the passenger side front will be replaced and painted prior to the new owner taking delivery.

This T/A is equipped with the optional 16″ x 8″ Hi Tech aluminum wheels and the WS6 special handling package.  The 16″ wheels are currently wrapped in 245/50/16 Goodyear Eagle GT II tires that are quite old, with date codes of 2000 and 2001.

This Trans Am is said to drive very well, as it accelerates, brakes and handles as it should.  Here is a video of driving top down on the highway:

The CARFAX shows a Damage Report from 2003.  While the car has had paintwork, it appears to be cosmetic based on a visual inspection and how the car drives.  In addition it indicates a mileage inconsistency in 2004 however mileage on the service records before and after that data entry suggest that this was a clerical error.  The previous owners kept the maintenance records organized in binder, and also kept extra fuses, bulbs and the original manuals with the car.

You can download the CARFAX from the Key Specifications table above and make sure you check out the 120+ additional pictures found in the “Pictures” tab above.  Don’t forget that the profit from the vehicle is being donated to charity and that the highest bidder wins (No Reserve), so bid often on this awesome blast from the past to make it yours!

I had a hell of a lot of good stories in 80s and 90s F body cars like this Trans Am when I was in high school. Some too wild even for VINwiki… 😉 The trouble is that I’m an adult now with more needs than just general hooliganism… Sad I know! This Trans Am is exactly the right car that can be used and enjoyed by a whole family, a husband, a wife, or possibly a better car to go find you a girlfriend or 2 or 3! With such LOW original miles this TA is an unmolested example that has all the original manuals and window sticker, it will surely appreciate while making amazing memories for decades to come!! Your bids will directly help with proceeds going to the Genius Garage Educational Programs and help kickstart the engineering and technical careers of young gear heads. Bid away and get ready to have the time of your life while helping a good cause. What more do you want??!!!! Ok. OK.. I get it…. An F16 is rad and so is a nuclear sub, but this Trans Am is at least a sweet way to drive to the base. YOU’RE WELCOME! 🙂
